DESCRIPTION:  \nThe Youth Concerto Competition invites students aged 10 to 18\, enrolled in grades 5th through 12th and residing in Georgia or South Carolina\, to showcase their musical talents on orchestral instruments such as strings\, woodwinds\, brass\, percussion\, and piano! The competition comprises two divisions: the Junior Division for students aged 10 to 13 in 5th through 8th grades\, and the Senior Division for students aged 14 to 18 in 9th through 12th grades. \nCompetitors are required to perform a single movement from an orchestral concerto or a chosen piece\, with a maximum duration of 10 minutes. The selected piece must be memorized\, have a published orchestral accompaniment\, and be free of Digital Rights Management (DRM). DESCRIPTION:Come see Scott Kirby combined with the wonderful music of Scott Joplin! \n“In Scott Kirby’s playing we encounter the very essence of ragtime. He is the embodiment of\nthe Scott Joplin ideal.”\n– Edward A. Berlin\, Author of King of Ragtime: Scott Joplin and His Era \nA native of Ohio\, Scott Kirby began his study of music at the age of six\, and continued formal piano instruction for seventeen years. He worked under Robert Howat of Wittenberg University of Ohio\, and Sylvia Zaremba at the Ohio State University. After obtaining an English degree from Ohio State University\, Kirby moved to New Orleans and began his professional music career\, as a street performer. In the following four years\, he recorded the complete rags of Scott Joplin. He debuted at all of the major ragtime festivals in the United States\, as well as festivals in Belgium\, France\, Norway\, New Zealand\, and Hungary. \nKirby has served as Musical Director of the Scott Joplin Ragtime Festival in Sedalia\, MO\, and of the Rocky Mountain Ragtime and American Music Festival in Boulder\, CO\, as well as director of the San Juan Islands Ragtime Institute. His appearances include a segment on CBS News Sunday Morning with Charles Osgood in 1998\, and at the Smithsonian Institute in Washington D.C. Kirby co-founded a record company (Viridiana Productions\, L.L.C.)\, has made 25 recordings\, and has composed over 150 original works for piano and other instruments. Admired by fellow pianists including George Winston\, and hailed by Time Magazine as an “ace pianist\,” CBS News’ Charles Osgood agreed that “…Critics call Scott Kirby one of the best interpreters of ragtime music on the scene today.” \nKirby’s artistic passion grew to include to visual art\, and in 2005\, while living in France\, he completed 75 paintings and 28 piano compositions. These include “The Prairie Devotionals\,” The paintings (belonging to a set entitled “Visions of the Great Plains”) and the new musical works set the groundwork for his new multi-media project “Main Street Souvenirs.” Kirby now lives in Boulder\, Colorado and divides his time between composing\, painting\, performing and teaching. \nClick below to see some of his previous performances!

DESCRIPTION:Join us for a grand Hymn Festival led and accompanied by David Cherwien! \n \nDavid M. Cherwien is currently serving as Cantor at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church\, Minneapolis\, MN\, and in 2002 was appointed Artistic Director for the National Lutheran Choir\, also based in the Twin Cities. He has also held full time parish music positions in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area\, Chicago\, Seattle\, and Berlin. During the 2000-2001 academic year he served as Organist/Cantor of Christ Chapel and Visiting Instructor of Music at Gustavus College\, St. Peter\, MN. While in Chicago\, he served as Teaching Associate in Service Playing and improvisation at Elmhurst College. He completed the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in organ performance\, and the Master of Arts degree in Theory and Composition\, both from the University of Minnesota. His undergraduate work was in organ performance and choral music education at Augsburg College\, Minneapolis\, where he was honored as distinguished alumni in the fall of 2000. \nThe event will be held at St. Paul’s Church 605 Reynolds Street\, Augusta\, GA 30901 on Saturday\, September 30th 2023\, at 4pm with a Mass Choir including Area Church Choir Members. DESCRIPTION:Augusta University is pleased to host Italian Pianist\, Leonardo Colafelice\, for the upcoming Vola Jacobs Memorial Piano Recital on Tuesday\, March 28th at the Maxwell Theatre at Augusta University. \nHere is the schedule for the day: \n4:30 p.m. Masterclass (free and open to the public) \n7:00 p.m. Pre-Concert Performance featuring Augusta University Piano Students \n7:30 p.m. Concert (tickets required\, see below) \nIn August 2016\, Leonardo Colafelice was awarded Second Prize in the prestigious “Cleveland International Piano Competition” and also received 3 special awards: Audience Prize\, Best Performance of a Russian Piece\, and The Junior Jury Prize. In January 2020\, Leonardo won the 3rd prize\, the bronze medal and the audience prize at the Gurwitz International Piano Competition in San Antonio (Texas\, USA). He has also been recognized as “Emissary of the Muse” by the Major of San Antonio\, Ron Rinemberg. \nIn May 2019\, Leonardo was one of the 6 finalists during the first edition of the “China International Music Competition” in Beijng. Prior to that\, Leonardo was awarded with several international prizes: in May 2014 as a young 18- year old\, Leonardo Colafelice was one of the six finalists during the “Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Master Competition” in Tel Aviv. At the end of the competition\, he also received three important special prizes: Best Performer of a Classical Concerto\, Best Performer of a Chopin Composition\, and finally\, Most Outstanding Pianist up to 22 Years of Age. \nVola O’Connor Jacobs was an integral part of the musical fabric of Augusta for most of her life. DESCRIPTION:A Musical Friendsgiving  \nNovember 21 @ 3:00 pm \nWe celebrate a return to in-person music-making with gratitude for local musicians who helped us make it through the pandemic shutdown. \nPerformers include:\nMark Dickens\, organist\nClara Park and Martin David Jones\, duo-pianists\nAnastasia Petrunina\, violinist\nDenis Petrunin\, percussionist\nArthur Ross\, violist \nThe cause: Boys With a Future \nCONCERTS WITH A CAUSE \nConcerts with a Cause brings live music to our community. \nGenerous donors allow us to offer the concert series free of charge. \nAt each concert\, we collect a “love offering” – not for the performers – but for a local service organization. \nChristianity has always been associated with great works of art and beauty\, expressing the inexpressible and transcending the earthbound.  It is our prayer that these concerts will help you find God here.  As we gather\, we also hope to benefit service organizations which are doing good work for the Kingdom of God in our community. Since its beginning in 2003\, Concerts with a Cause has donated $214\,837.20 to 55 local organizations.
