We would like to take a moment, here on our blog, to personally say:

Congratulations to the amazing Tara Scheyer

on the recent receipt of the

2017 Top Music Teacher award!

The program was designed, by Steinway, to formally recognize those music teachers who demonstrate outstanding instruction and leadership in piano and music education.

Steinway also wanted teachers who were truly passionate about their craft and exhibited the same degree of excellence their hand-made pianos provided, to their students.

When we sat down to make our short list of teachers who we think exemplify these two statements, we were so excited to put Tara at the top of the list. Those who have seen their children benefit from Tara’s special gift of sharing her wonderful talent will certainly agree with me that Tara Scheyer would be at the top of any list!

Daily I speak with someone at our store who regretted quitting music.  Many times it was because they just didn’t connect with their teacher when they were children.  I can’t imagine any child growing up to say they didn’t connect with Ms. Scheyer when they were learning about the limitless joys of active music making.  On behalf of all of us at Turner’s and obviously, Steinway & Sons, we are proud to partner with teachers like Tara in sharing our love of music!

“I’ve always respected and admired Steinway pianos- from afar.  I haven’t had many opportunities to play one, and never really felt their pianos were made for someone like me. The fact that they have now made it their mission to reach out to piano dealers and in turn to piano teachers and recognize them for being a part of the big picture has certainly colored my perception of the company. I’m very impressed with their efforts of inclusion and am so honored to be chosen as a Steinway top music teacher for 2017.” – Tara Scheyer

This distinction only adds to Tara’s repertoire.

Her other accolades include:

“Best Female Singer in Augusta” (by Augusta Magazine for the past eight years)

“Best Birthday Party Entertainer” and “Best Piano Teacher” (by Augusta Family Magazine)

In 2013 she was also nominated for a GRAMMY in Music Education.

Additionally her family music project, Tara Scheyer & the Mud Puppy Band, has released four CDs including “HiFi Felix vol 3: Felix Navidad” for The 12 Bands of Christmas, a foundation to fight pediatric cancer.  She has performed with her family band- husband Kevin (drums/percussion), son Felix (age 10, harmonica/ukulele) and son Nopa (age 5, general racket)- at libraries, schools and festivals in Georgia, South Carolina, and Mississippi since 2005.

Now she can add this wonderful recognized Steinway Award to her list of talented accomplishments! I am very excited to say that I had the honor of presenting her with this prestigious award!
